AI fraud uses enhanced fraud tactics that are significantly more advanced and harder to detect than traditional scams. According to KPMG’s 2026 research:

  • 60% of organizations experienced fraud involving AI-generated emails or chat content
  • 39% encountered deepfake document fraud
  • 24% were targeted by voice cloning attacks

These tactics are effective because they create “manufactured legitimacy.” Instead of appearing suspicious, AI fraud makes attacks look like normal business activity.

Deepfake-enabled social engineering

Attackers use AI-generated voice or video to impersonate executives, often requesting urgent wire transfers or sensitive data.

Synthetic identity fraud

AI-generated phishing and messaging

Unlike traditional phishing, these messages are highly personalized, grammatically perfect, and context-aware, making them far more convincing.
